Loadmaster / Sudden message on startup of NETWORK ERROR
« on: September 07, 2020, 01:00:03 pm »
Symptoms - Your data is on a network drive. Everything has been working fine and you have made no changes. All of a sudden on program start you get a NETWORK ERROR message and the data directory changes to the local C: drive.

Cause - this appears to be due to a change in the networking component of the Windows 10 update 2004 which occurs automatically and without notice to you.

Solution - download and install version 44.0.1.41 or later as this has been rewritten to get around this problem.

You may need to examine this article -

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/windows-server/networking/guest-access-in-smb2-is-disabled-by-default

This event indicates that the server tried to log on the user as an unauthenticated guest but was denied by the client. Guest logons do not support standard security features such as signing and encryption. Therefore, guest logons are vulnerable to man-in-the-middle attacks that can expose sensitive data on the network. Windows disables insecure (nonsecure) guest logons by default. Microsoft recommends that you do not enable insecure guest logons.

TPN Invoicing / Cannot see network mapped drives
« on: August 12, 2020, 11:52:46 am »
The symptom is that you go into My Computer and you can see a number of remote mapped drives but when you go into Datapath in TPN Invoicing they are not available.  :-[

This is caused by either running the program in Windows Elevated Mode OR installing the program as an Administrator (you should only ever install a program as a Standard User).

Check the properties of the shortcut that runs TPN Invoicing and ensure that RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR is not ticked.

Effectively when you look through Windows Explorer the drives have been 'mapped' for the current user. When you run an elevated program it dumps the mapped drives from being visible since it treats you as a different user who hasn't got these drives mapped. To work properly the mapped drives have to be mapped for all users rather then just the current one. The effect is no different to two users logging in one one computer with one mapping an external drive, when the other user logs in they won't see the mapped drive. You don't have to reinstall the program to fix this as it is not a program issue.

This effect would not be limited to TPN Invoicing but any program which ends up being run in Elevated Mode.

These explain what is happening :-

TPN Invoicing / Invoicing - Eliminating network issues on data
« on: June 22, 2020, 09:34:19 am »
If you are getting unusual errors when invoicing (like crashing) and the data is stored on a network then you need to eliminate the network as the cause of the problem.

You need to move the data to a local drive instead.

How to do this -

1. Make a new directory on your local C: drive. As an example one called TESTDATA
2. Run TPN Invoicing and note the current data location. This appears on the top of the screen between square brackets e.g. [T:\]
3. Go into Utilities and BACKUP. Alter the destination to the new directory e.g. in my case C:\TESTDATA
4. Now go into Utilities and DATA PATH. Alter this to the new directory.
5. Go into Utilities and RESTORE DATA. Browse for the file BACKUP.ZIP in the directory you are using. Restore the data.
6. Do your invoicing and check that it runs through OK. (Your original data is still in the original location). Check the invoices look OK.
7. Go into Utilities and BACKUP. You can save to your temporary directory again.
8. Go into Utilities and Data Path. Alter this back to the original directory e.g. in my case T:\
9. Go into Utilities and RESTORE. Browse for the file BACKUP.ZIP in the temporary directory. Restore this.

Note your PDF invoices will be on the local drive and will need copying to the network location as well.

DO NOT ALLOW USERS TO WORK ON THE ORIGINAL DATA UNTIL YOU HAVE FINISHED. ALWAYS CONSIDER SAVING A BACKUP ELSEWHERE BEFORE YOU START SO THAT YOU CAN ALWAYS GO
BACK TO IT IF THINGS GO WRONG.

If the program works properly on the local drive then there is no issue with the program or data. You have a networking issue.

Loadmaster / Invoices suddenly printing extra pages
« on: March 30, 2020, 09:37:16 am »
Symptom - a single page invoice now prints on two pages.

Cause - this is normally a printer issue, often a laser printer. Most newly installed laser printers default to the American standard paper length of Legal and not A4. Legal has a shorter page length than A4.

Check the printer properties and look for the dafault paper size. Alter this to A4. Once done, reselect the printer in Setup/Local Parameters within Loadmaster.

We are not affected by the Corona virus owing to the way we operate. We have not furloughed or found the need for Government grants.

The only thing affected is site visits. We will not be doing any site visits for the foreseeable future.

Loadmaster / Error upon running Loadmaster
« on: February 24, 2020, 04:12:32 pm »
You get an error before getting to the login screen.

The message you are getting simply means that you do not have open/read/write permissions on the folder C:\ProgramData\Zipzap Computers Limited\Loadmaster

This is a problem with Windows permissions.

Add a user to the Userlist for this folder called Everyone and give it full access.

TPN Invoicing / Do not install as an Administrator!
« on: November 21, 2019, 04:59:27 pm »
You should always install TPN Invoicing as a STANDARD USER.

This applies to all the programs we produce and to executable programs in general.

If the program requires a higher level of authority to perform a task then it won't be able to as it is already being run with the highest level. It will therefore fail.

Operational Status / Bulletin Board
« on: October 30, 2019, 08:51:24 pm »
The Bulletin Board and the backup site have been altered to use SSL and are now both https sites.

Used LetsEncrypt and Certbot. Very easy to install on the Raspberry Pi.

This is to stop any problems of security blocking by Google Chrome and Firefox.

Miscellaneous / Email Security Certificates
« on: October 25, 2019, 08:49:38 pm »
Email Security Certificates ensure that emails that you send cannot be tampered with before they are received at the destination email address. Any tampering is notified to the recipient thus providing peace of mind. If the email says that it's genuine then it's genuine and came from whoever sent it and it has not been tampered with in any way after it was sent. Certificates are totally unique to one email address.

Certificates can be low cost or even totally free. Search for them on the internet.

They are supplied by Authorised distributors only, like Sertigo (Comodo), Digicert, Thawte, Symantec, Actalis etc. They are easily applied for and installed.

If everyone used Email Certificates then it would cut down on spamming and scamming.

Look for the little padlock in emails you receive. All emails you get from us will have one.
